Professional Background

The mission of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People is to ensure the political, educational, social, and economic equality of rights of all persons and to eliminate race-based discrimination.

The Maryland State Conference Political Action Committee is responsible for managing legislative affairs for the 24 county branches and lobbying the Maryland State Assembly to pass laws to support the mission of the NAACP and the legislative priorities of the Maryland State Conference.

The Maryland State Conference is lead by President Gerald Stansbury who, for over the last 8 years, has guided the organization through the economic down turn that had a huge impact on communities of color and the poor. President Stansbury has provided oversight for the various branch community feeding programs, expungement services and housing services that has helped many during the rise of unlawful foreclosures through its Prince George's County Branch Housing Committee directed by Elizabeth Johnson and President Bob Ross.

The vision of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People is to ensure a society in which all individuals have equal rights without discrimination based on race.
